DOUGAN AND CORSETTO CRAZY FOR "CRAZY PAPERS" AT NY COMIC-CON
Chatterbox Comix launches Dougan and Corsetto's Debut Graphic Novel

The very first New York Comic-Con (February 24-26, 2006), will see
Chatterbox Comix debut its very first graphic novel, CRAZY PAPERS,
written by Jim Dougan and illustrated by Danielle Corsetto. This
48-page original graphic novella is the story of three
twenty-something girlfriends as they come to terms with life and love
in their post-college years. They share a wild weekend of wannabe
gangstas, bar brawls, Bon Jovi, jealous husbands and jail time.

"CRAZY PAPERS is a straight-up comedy - accessible, mainstream
entertainment. It's something that anyone – at least anyone not
offended by some potty-mouthed characters – can pick up, read, and
enjoy," said Dougan. "The story is about figuring out what counts
after college. Your mid-twenties are very dynamic and volatile, and
your life can take a new path literally overnight."

Dougan had been following Corsetto's work since meeting her at SPX in
2003. "The story was largely written before I approached Danielle,
but I honestly didn't consider any other artist for this – she was the
perfect collaborator to bring it to life."

Thankfully for Dougan, Corsetto agreed: "CRAZY PAPERS was right up my
alley," said Corsetto. "I had a lot of writers sending me sci-fi
stories, books about male characters I couldn't relate to, or books
about female characters with bikinis and guns. And here was Jim giving
me a comedy about three post-college girls, sans metal bikini costumes
and numchucks. I truly couldn't have been luckier. And Jim doesn't
write women the way most guys would write women - they feel right."

Fans who have been following Corsetto in her hilarious webcomic, GIRLS
WITH SLINGSHOTS (www.girlswithslingshots.com), and in The Weekly World
News' BAT BOY will now have an opportunity to see her flex her deft
comedic chops in a full-length story. "I consider CRAZY PAPERS to be
my first REAL work in comics," said Corsetto.

"Comics is a collaborative medium, and when each party brings
something to the table, the whole is greater than the sum of the
parts," said Dougan. "That was definitely the case with CRAZY PAPERS,
and we think people will really enjoy it."

CRAZY PAPERS (ISBN 0-9777878-0-X) is a 48-page black-and-white
original graphic novella priced at $6.50. It will be available from
Chatterbox Comix at the New York Comic-Con, Artist's Alley Booth AA61.
Chatterbox plans to make it available through Diamond Comics and
other distribution channels later this year.

Oh.... I have to PAY? This is awkward...

Nah, kidding. I'll gladly plunk down a chunk of change for the lyrical stylings of yourself and Ms Crazy!

I will be discussing this stuff with Ms. Corsetto in the coming weeks and will let you know. You'd prefer to wait until we're solicited through Diamond, right?

yeah...that'd help with building some word-of-mouth and make it easier for me to order copies.

but we can do it guerrilla-style, if you'd prefer.

Congratulations! That looks sweet, and I love the interiors. Now put up a Paypal button on your LJ so us dirty furriners can buy.

Is this your debut book?

Thanks for the kind words - very flattered to get praise from you, milady. I will set up the Paypal button, etc. once the book is actually in hand from the printer...say, end of February. I'll post about it here at the LJ.

>Is this your debut book?

Yes, for both of us. Danielle has to date published almost entirely online (but for a few short anthology pieces), and I've had a few unsuccessful attempts at getting longer and larger-scale pieces (including a Western) picked up by publishers. CRAZY PAPERS is a relatively short one-and-done, well-suited to a focused self-publishing effort. (At least I hope it is.)
